BENIN CITY — The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Saturday hosted a special Sallah luncheon with troops of the Forward Operations Base (FOB) Sobe in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State as part of activities marking Eid-el-Fitr.

Addressing the troops, the COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing morale and strengthening inter-agency collaboration through welfare-driven initiatives.

He urged the personnel to remain steadfast in the defence of peace, unity and national sovereignty.

Represented by the Commander, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, the army chief emphasised the need for resilience and unwavering dedication among troops in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting lives.

“They serve in difficult and often demanding environments, far from the comfort of their homes, yet remain steadfast in loyalty and professionalism.

Their endurance, sacrifice and courage represent the true spirit of the Nigerian soldier. We pray for their safety, strength and success in all ongoing operations, and we look forward to their safe return,” he said.

He also commended sister services as well as other security and intelligence agencies for their collaboration and professionalism, noting that sustained synergy remains critical to operational success and national stability.

The COAS further conveyed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support, leadership and commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces.

He noted that the President’s strategic guidance continues to serve as a source of motivation for troops across various theatres of operation.

In his address, the Commander, FOB Sobe, Lieutenant Colonel Stanley Agboro, described the luncheon as a symbolic annual event held during festive periods such as Eid-el-Fitr, Eid-el-Kabir, Easter and Christmas.

He said the initiative is designed to boost morale, recognise the sacrifices of frontline soldiers, honour fallen heroes and strengthen camaraderie within the military.

Agboro expressed appreciation to the Brigade Commander and his entourage for visiting the operational base to celebrate with the troops.

He also acknowledged the presence of the Chairperson of Owan West Local Government Area, Madam Joy Ohonyon, represented by the Vice Chairman, Mr Dele Aleburu, as well as the Odibiado of Sobe, HRH Anthony Ero Aleburu I, and heads of other security agencies in the area.

Highlights of the event included a luncheon, cultural dance performances, comedy presentations and morale-boosting songs by the troops.
