The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has selected 35 swimming coaches from across the country for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Solidarity Swimming Coaches Course scheduled to take place in Lagos from September 15 to 20, 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The capacity-building programme is being organised under the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity programme in collaboration with the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Nigeria Aquatics Federation.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s swimming coaching structure while addressing identified gaps in technical development and athlete progression.
The six-day course is expected to expose participants to contemporary coaching techniques, technical knowledge and international best practices needed to develop swimmers from the grassroots through to elite competition.
The programme also aligns with the development-oriented agenda of the National Sports Commission and the strategic direction of the current NAqF leadership, which has placed emphasis on human-capacity development, youth progression and the discovery and nurturing of the next generation of Nigerian aquatic talents.Cricket news
NAqF President, Lekan Fatodu, has repeatedly stressed the importance of investing in coaches and other technical personnel as a critical component of the federation’s long-term development strategy.
According to the federation, a stronger coaching workforce will have a direct impact on athlete development and competitive performances, while improving Nigeria’s prospects of producing swimmers capable of competing successfully at continental, Commonwealth, Olympic and world championships
