Super Eagles head coach Éric Sékou Chelle is expected to announce two separate Nigeria squads this week as the team prepares for the upcoming international engagements.
The first squad will be selected for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and is expected to feature several familiar faces from the Super Eagles setup, alongside at least one new addition to the senior national team.
Chelle is also expected to unveil a second squad for Nigeria’s international friendly against Russia, with the team set to feature a large number of Under-23 players.
The decision is reportedly part of the coach’s broader plan to build a strong pool of players ahead of the 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifiers, while also giving emerging talents an opportunity to gain international experience.
The Russia friendly is scheduled to provide Chelle with another opportunity to assess Nigeria’s young players as he continues to strengthen the national team’s options across different age groups.
The two squad announcements are expected to provide further insight into Chelle’s plans for both the senior Super Eagles and the country’s U-23 setup.
