Spread the love

She’s being criticised because she’s leaning into the same victim narrative a lot of privileged women use when they want to sound relatable. Nothing stopped her from living her dream, she chose the comfort, money, and lifestyle that come with being an NBA wife…that’s fine, but own it. Don’t act like marriage and motherhood trapped you when you had full control of your choices.

She had and still has the means to hire the best childcare and still build a career if she wanted to. She also had the option to stop after baby number one or two but didn’t, and that’s perfectly valid.

My issue isn’t with her reflecting on her choices; it’s with the narrative. I’m the one drawing the comparison here because women like her are not in the same position as stay-at-home mums who are genuinely stuck in financial or emotional ruts. Those women don’t have the privilege, resources, or flexibility she does.

And let’s be real, she’s not stuck. She’s gone on to explore her cooking passion and launch several ventures, so clearly, she still has options and freedom. Also, let’s not forget that most celebrity management teams require interviewers to send in their questions beforehand. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if that “reflective” answer was a carefully planned move to align her image with feminists, Gen Z women, or both, depending on what business venture or service she’s got in the pipeline.
