President Bola Tinubu has removed Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector General of Police and appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, as his successor.
Egbetokun’s exit followed a directive from the President asking him to resign. The instruction was reportedly issued during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.
He was appointed as the 22nd IGP on June 19, 2023, and his position was later confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023.
Although he was scheduled to retire on September 4, 2024, upon reaching the mandatory age of 60, his tenure had earlier been extended by the President before his removal.
