The Permanent Secretary,Edo State Sports Commission Mrs Agharese Patricia Efe-Amenze has commended Nigeria Women League Champions Edo Queens for their impressive performance and 5-1 victory over USFA of Burkina Faso which earned them qualification for the final of the WAFU-B Tournament on Wednesday evening.
The Permanent Secretary gave the commendation in a chat with journalists on Thursday afternoon in Benin while reacting to the semi-finals clash between Edo Queens and the host team USFA.
” Yesterday’s match was really exciting and I am very happy about the way our girls played and defeated their opponents convincingly. We are really proud of them.”
” I wish them well in the final match against Apem of Ghana on Saturday. I’m confident our girls will avenge the last group B 2-1 loss to the Ghanaians on Saturday. We are expecting the WAFU-B Tournament trophy in Benin. I mean we are beating Apemen 2-1 on Saturday “. The girls performances have been very impressive since they started the tournament in Burkina Faso. I wish them well.” She said.
” I want to use this opportunity to thank our Governor,His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo for his support and investment in sports development. “
” Let me also commend our executive chairman Hon Amadin Desmond Enabulele  who has been with the team since in Burkina Faso, supporting and encouraging the team. It shows that he is a technocrat; a great sports administrator who truly cares about the welfare of his people. We are also aware that APC chairman Emperor Jarrett Tenebe is also there with the team. We are really appreciative of what they do for sports in Edo State.” She added.
Mrs Efe-Amenze noted that the esteemed  presence of Hon Amadin Desmond Enabulele and APC boss Jarrett Tenebe, indeed has a huge effect on the team in terms of motivation.
Nigeria’s Edo Queens clash will be facing Ampem Darkoa of Ghana in the final of the WAFU-B tournament, hoping to qualify for the sole ticket from west Africa to CAF Women’s Champions League proper.
Edo Queens are meeting with the Ghanaian team for the second time in the WAFU-B Tournament. They came from behind to defeat Edo Queens 2-1 in the last match of Group B and both teams qualified for the semi-finals.
The Nigeria champions earned their spot in the final after trashing hosts USFA 5-1 in Wednesday’s WAFU B semi-finals in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Atume Doosuur opened scoring in the 17th minute which was followed by goals from Chioma Moses and Valentina Uroko to build a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Doshima Tarnum’s 46th and Aminat folorunshor’s 62nd minute goals wrapped up the game for Edo Queens  to dump out the Burkinabes.
The host team however got a consolation goal in the 91st minute of the encounter.
In the second semi-finals clash,Ghanaian side Ampem also trashed Dynamique FC of Benin Republic 4-1 to book the final match with the Nigerian team.
Edo Queens,no doubt will be seeking revenge in the final against the Ghanaians who staged a comeback 2-1 win over them in the group stage. And they are also in search of the second WAFU-B title.
Edo Queens emerged champions of the WAFU-B tournament for the first time in 2024 and reached the fourth place finish in the CAF champions league proper in Morocco.
The final and bronze medal games of the 2026 WAFU-B tournament hold on Saturday at the August 4 stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
