Abakaliki: The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has passed into law the amendment to the Schedules of Law No. 004 of 2008, containing regulations and remuneration for public and political office holders at the Local Government and Development Centre levels in the state.
The amendment was predicated on an Executive Bill from the State Governor, Rt Hon Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
The bill, which received accelerated passage by members of the House, covers regulations and remuneration for local government chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, special assistants, councillors, development centres coordinators and management committees members.
The law, which is deemed to have come into force on 23rd September, 2026 was considered page by page, with errors of syntax and morphologies corrected.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa lauded the State Governor His Excellency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for keeping faith with his administration’s welfareism mantra.
The Chief Lawmaker assured the Governor of the unflinching support of Staff and members to all his policies and programmes, and applauded members for giving the Executive Bill its deserved speedy passage.
Leader of the House, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro who moved the motion for the passage of the Bill, seconded by the member representing Ikwo North State Constituency, Hon. Ifeanyi Nwakpu described the schedules as apt and well-deserving in view of the current economic realities in the country.
