The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, has suspended lawmaker representing Kogi East Senatorial District, Jibrin Isah Echocho over alleged anti-party activities after his loss in the party’s primary election.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the ward executive committee held on May 26, 2026.

Party leaders in the ward accused the senator of taking actions capable of causing division within the party after failing to secure the APC ticket for another term.

According to the suspension letter signed by ward chairman Shaibu Mohammed, secretary Kabiru Mohammed and other executives, the party claimed that Echocho had been holding meetings with opposition figures and was allegedly planning to dump the APC after losing the primary election.

The ward executives said the senator’s conduct was becoming harmful to the party’s unity and electoral chances in Kogi East. They also accused him of working against the APC despite spending eight years in the Senate under the party’s platform.

Party officials further claimed that the senator did not help the APC secure victory in his polling unit during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections in Kogi State.

They also alleged that he failed to provide strong political direction for party members during major elections in the state.

Following the announcement of the suspension, APC chieftain Mallam Nasiru Musa defended the action taken by the ward executives.

He said the party could not continue to allow members whose personal ambitions were putting the APC at risk.

Musa also said many people in Kogi East were not satisfied with the senator’s performance during his years in office. According to him, the suspension became necessary to protect the future of the party in the area.
